I am thrilled to share the cover of FIEND with you! I think it perfectly conveys the elements of the book: the urbaness and modernity of the city skyline in the background and the old-fashioned Gothic facade, representing the Berisha family, in the foreground. The house’s glowing eyes and sinister grin. The heavy black cloud overhead—the significance of which will become apparent when you read the story.
Why the contrast between old and new: one of the book’s themes is patriarchy. The Berishas are an old-fashioned family. They cling to the ways of the old country, much to the angst of the family’s daughters who wonder, when is it going to be my turn? One of the questions of the book is, how does one free oneself from the shackles of the past? There’s a right way to do it, and a wrong way. Guess which way they take in FIEND? (I’m very excited for this book, in case you can’t tell. It really is a book of the moment, in many ways.)
If you’re a bookseller, librarian, bookstagrammer, booktoker, book reviewer, please head over to Edelweiss or Netgalley to request a review PDF. (There may or may not be a cookie in it for you if we ever meet in person.)
If you’d like to pre-order, here’s the Penguin Random House link. In the UK? No sweat; here’s the Titan Books link. Yes, the UK edition will have a different cover (TBA). And don’t forget, you can order through Bookshop.org and select your favorite independent bookstore to receive a portion of your order. Even an ebook!
Enough about what I think! What do YOU think? Please tell me in the comments. Please forward this email to friends who might enjoy the novel. Or restack. Share the word!
I can't wait to read this. I love your other books and have returned several times to The Hunger, not just for the story but for craft inspiration. Congratulations on another book, a TV deal, and the UK edition.
Congratulations Alma, the cover looks absolutely fantastic!
