My husband and I were watching ANDOR when my phone rang.
It was his mother calling to tell us that The Hunger had been an answer on Jeopardy.
Being an answer on Jeopardy is one of those things many people dream about. I did not imagine it would ever happen to me. I had a number of writer friends who’d been Jeopardy answers and while I always congratulated them, I never asked them what it felt like, if it was life-changing, all those things.
I originally wrote it all up for this newsletter and then thought, huh, this might be something I can use for promotion. Get a little more mileage out of it because that’s where we’re at in 2025. Everything is fodder for social media, for attention.
I turned those thoughts into this article, which ran on Crime Reads. I hope you’ll read it. I talk about other big moments in my writing career that I did not pay sufficient attention to when they happened (like when I was supposed to be on a panel with Christopher Nolan) and how I hope I’ve learned my lesson and will celebrate stuff like this.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. To answer a few questions I’ve been asked since: no, I did not know I would be mentioned on Jeopardy. The producers do not call you, before or after. The clip above was captured & sent to me by one of my lovely neighbors. Has my life changed? Not in any way I can see, but one never knows.
Finally it can be revealed
In this interview with Deadline, TV/film producer and Hollywood legend Mark Johnson (Gran Via) goes public about Black Vault, my spy-UFO story (Slow Horses meets The X-Files is my shorthand way of describing it) with Greg Nicotero of The Walking Dead also producing. It’s actually been in development for almost two years but I wasn’t able to talk about it (okay, I did). Fingers crossed we get over the finish line.

SALE! SALE! SALE! The Hunger ebook will be on sale from June 4 - 10 for the low, low price of $1.99. How low is that? Not quite as cheap as a hot dog from 7/11 but far less likely to cause gastro-intestinal distress.
Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing Black Vault on the screen. BTW, saw a copy of Red London on display in the CIA gift shop at Langley last week.
